The Benefits of Same Day Crowns in Colorado Springs, CO
July 28, 2015
At Anderson Family Dental, Dr. Erick Anderson and his team of dental hygienists and dental assistants understand that you might not want to hear you have a tooth that needs a crown. First, that means your tooth is damaged enough to require a restoration. And secondly, there’s the time you’ll need to carve out of your busy schedule in order to have the crown placed. Well, here’s some good news—Anderson Family Dental offers CEREC one visit crowns. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. With this state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Erick can prep your tooth, fabricate your crown and set it all in the course of one appointment.
Dental crowns are commonly used to repair a number of dental problems including severe tooth decay, a cracked tooth, a broken tooth or a tooth that needs protection after root canal therapy. Traditionally, crowns required at least a couple of office visits scheduled several weeks apart. In between appointments, patients would need to wear a temporary crown while the permanent crown was created in a dental lab. With CEREC same day crowns, however, we can restore your tooth quickly and efficiently.
More about CEREC Crowns
The CEREC system at Anderson Family Dental consists of a digital camera, 3D CAD software to design your tooth restoration and a milling unit that fabricates your new crown in our office. Dr. Erick begins the procedure by making sure you’re completely comfortable. Then, once the affected tooth and the surrounding area are adequately anesthetized, we’ll prepare your tooth for the new metal-free crown.
Using the CEREC camera, we then take a digital impression of your tooth, which is transferred to the system’s computer. With this image, the 3D CAD software creates a virtual model of your tooth and designs your crown. The design, which includes the restoration’s correct color, shape and biting surface, is sent to the milling unit in our office. This milling unit uses high-speed burs to accurately fabricate the CEREC crown in only about 20 minutes. Once milled, the restoration can be polished or stained for even more lifelike appearance.
Finally, Dr. Erick carefully inspects your new crown, checks the fit and cements it into place. Thanks to the convenience and efficiency of CEREC one visit crowns, your tooth is completely restored.

Implant Retained Dentures in Colorado Springs, CO
July 18, 2015
If you or someone close to you has been wearing dentures for a number of years, then you’ve probably heard the common complaints: they’re uncomfortable, they slip, they click, they move when speaking, food collects underneath them and they cause mouth sores. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Erick Anderson has the solution. Implant retained dentures, also called implant supported dentures and snap-in dentures, are a natural-looking and natural-feeling tooth replacement option.
What Are Implant Retained Dentures?
As the name suggests, implant supported dentures are dentures—sometimes the ones you already have if they fit well—that are anchored into place by dental implants. Dr. Erick will determine if a removable or fixed denture is best for you. In either case, however, your denture will be held in place securely with dental implants that are strategically positioned and surgically implanted into your jawbone.
If you’ll be wearing removable implant retained dentures, then you’ll want to take them out after meals for cleaning and leave them out overnight while you sleep. Fixed dentures, on the other hand, remain in your mouth all the time. Basically, you treat them just like natural teeth, brushing and flossing your dentures daily. Because they are fixed, these dentures most closely resemble the look and feel of natural teeth. If they do need repair or adjustment, Dr. Erick can remove them without damaging the implants.
The Advantages of Snap-In Dentures
With implant retained dentures, you avoid many of the problems that may develop with traditional dentures. First and foremost, there’s no embarrassing slipping or clicking while you eat or speak. And when you eat, you’ll find that your firmly held dentures allow you to chew more naturally and eat the same quality of foods that people with natural teeth enjoy. Nutrition, digestion and overall health usually improve when denture wearers elect to have implant retained dentures.
In addition, regular denture wearers are still susceptible to the bone loss that can result from missing teeth. This happens because dentures do not stimulate the bone the way natural teeth do. With implant supported dentures, the small titanium post in your jaw encourages healthy bone growth.

Trick or Treat! Time for Your Child and Anderson Family Dental to Meet!
October 20, 2014
Halloween is just around the corner. The kids are thinking about costumes, trick or treating, and of course, candy and other sweet treats. As their parents, you need to think about how to keep their teeth strong and healthy this Halloween and throughout the season. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, children’s dentistry is practiced with equal amounts of competence, care and comfort. And just the right amount of fun is thrown in for good measure.
Children’s Dentistry at Anderson Family Dental
The dentists at Anderson Family Dental, Dr. Erick T. Anderson and Dr. Richard L. Anderson, recommend children begin to see the dentist regularly around the age of three or sooner if you think they’re ready. By the time your children are three years old, most if not all of their baby teeth will have erupted. And yes, it’s important to clean that first little white tooth after feeding. Just wipe with a washcloth or gauze soaked in warm water. As more teeth erupt, you can use a soft child-sized toothbrush and small amount of toothpaste.
When you begin to bring your children to Anderson Family Dental, we’ll first make them feel comfortable in the dentist’s office, thereby setting the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyable dental care. We’ll also show you and your child how to properly brush and floss their teeth. Once baby teeth have been replaced by adult teeth, we’ll apply dental sealants. A thin layer of sealant is applied to the teeth and allowed to harden. Sealants help to protect the teeth against bacteria that cause decay. Likewise, we can use fluoride treatments for added protection.

Porcelain Veneers Let Your Smile Shine in Colorado Springs, CO
October 10, 2014
If you think your teeth aren’t perfect, you’re not alone. Many people, if given the opportunity, would change something about their smiles. Perhaps you’d like to change the color, shape or size of one or more of your teeth. Well, porcelain veneers may allow you to do just that. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Erick T. Anderson and Dr. Richard L. Anderson have created 100s of happy smiles with porcelain veneers!
Are Porcelain Veneers the Right Choice for You?
The first thing the dentists at Anderson Family Dental will need to do is carefully examine your teeth, gums and overall oral health in order to determine whether or not you are a candidate for porcelain veneers. If the answer is yes, then together you will discuss the goal you have in mind for your smile. Whether that goal is repairing one broken tooth or giving yourself an entirely brand new smile, porcelain veneers are a viable option.
Porcelain veneers, also called dental veneers, are commonly used to treat a variety of cosmetic dental flaws, including:
- Worn or discolored teeth, whether because of genetic predisposition or consuming richly colored foods and drinks
- Chipped or cracked teeth, whether caused by the aging process or injury
- Gaps between teeth that may widen with age
- Uneven teeth that are the result of teeth grinding or normal wear and tear
Your Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are micro-thin, custom-made casings of tooth-colored dental porcelain that are fabricated in a dental lab. During your initial visit for veneers, the dentist will use a shade chart to accurately match the color of your existing teeth. Then, a thin layer of the teeth receiving veneers will be removed and an impression of those will be made. The lab uses that impression to accurately produce your veneers. You’ll return to the office and your new porcelain veneers will be applied with special dental cement. With a little gentle care, your new smile will give you pleasure for years!

Custom Athletic Mouthguards Protect Your Smile this Sports Season
September 11, 2014
As adults and children from across the country gear up to play their favorite sports, it’s important to remember a vital piece of protective equipment: an athletic mouthguard. Proven to help prevent a variety of severe orofacial injuries across a broad spectrum of activities, custom athletic mouthguards are just as important as the helmets and pads you wear while you play. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Erick T. Anderson and Dr. Richard L. Anderson offer families from throughout the area an extensive selection of preventive dentistry solutions, including custom athletic mouthguards.
Why Choose Custom Athletic Mouthguards?
While it is true that you can find athletic mouthguards on the shelves at your local pharmacy or sporting goods store, these generic oral appliances simply cannot defend against injury as effectively as a customized mouthguard from your dentist. Because a custom athletic mouthguard is precisely modeled to fit your unique dentition, it is substantially more comfortable and will not shift in the mouth during rigorous gameplay.
According to the ADA, custom athletic mouthguards are strongly recommended for use in the following sports and recreational activities, among others:
- Baseball, basketball, softball, and racquetball
- Soccer, football, squash, and field hockey
- Weightlifting, boxing, and wrestling
- Surfing, water polo, and skateboarding
- Equestrian events
- Ice hockey and inline skating
- Extreme sports
With a custom sports mouthguard from Anderson Family Dental, you can protect your smile from potentially serious injuries, including knocked out teeth, partially dislodged teeth, soft tissue injuries, broken jaws, and even concussions.
Protect Precious Smiles with an Athletic Mouthguard
Are your children planning on participating in football, baseball, softball, karate, or any other contact sport this season? CEREC One-Visit Crowns for a Beautiful, Strong Smile on Your Schedule
June 10, 2014
Crowns are a common restorative option in modern dentistry, offering fundamental support and protection for teeth that have been compromised by decay or damage. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Erick T. Anderson and Dr. Richard L. Anderson understand that your time is a valuable commodity, so we offer a variety of restorative dentistry services that fit your lifestyle, including CEREC one-visit crowns.
Benefits of CEREC One-Day Restorations
Prior to the advent of CEREC one-visit crowns, a patient in need of a dental restoration would need to make multiple appointments with his or her dentist before the final restoration was actually placed. Messy impression materials were used to take molds of the patient’s dentition and then sent to a separate lab in order to fabricate the crown. In the meantime, the patient would have to leave wearing a temporary crown and return when the final piece had been completed.
Today, however, the advanced technology of CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) makes it possible to capture digital impressions, fabricate a customized dental crown, and place the restoration all in a single visit. Patients are free to leave our office with their complete crown intact, looking and feeling better than ever before.

Tooth-Colored Fillings at Anderson Family Dental for a Healthy & Beautiful Smile
May 6, 2014
Dental fillings are the most commonly performed restorative dentistry services, providing stability to a tooth’s structure when it has been compromised by decay. At Anderson Family Dental in Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. Erick T. Anderson and Dr. Richard L. Anderson offer a wide variety of restorative dentistry procedures, including tooth-colored fillings for a smile that is as beautiful as it is healthy.
Why Choose Tooth-Colored Fillings?
Historically, dental caries – more commonly known simply as cavities – have been treated using a filling material comprised of a metal amalgam. This amalgam contained mercury, silver, and other metals to form a solid barrier against bacterial invasion and further infection. Today, however, the majority of dentists and patients agree that composite resin is the preferred material for dental fillings.
Composite resin fillings, also called tooth-colored fillings, are customized to blend in flawlessly with the rest of your smile. Rather than hide your smile from the world because you are self-conscious about your dark metal fillings, you can feel free to show off your pearly whites anytime and anywhere you like. In addition to their aesthetic benefits, tooth-colored fillings offer functional advantages over amalgams as well. Unlike metal fillings, tooth-colored composites do not react to changes in temperature, so there’s none of the sensitivity that patients often cite when drinking hot or cold liquids. Enjoy a smile that is always comfortable and always great-looking with tooth-colored fillings from Anderson Family Dental.
Schedule Your Appointment Today
Whether you are looking to replace your old amalgam fillings with more modern tooth-colored composites or you are in need of a new restoration for a current cavity, our team is here to help you. We look forward to helping you achieve your most beautiful smile as well as optimal oral health for years to come. The application process is so simple that it typically only takes two visits to Anderson Family Dental – one appointment to consult with your dentists and take an impression of your teeth, and one visit to have the veneers affixed. The result is a beautifully uniform new smile that you’ll be happy to show off to the world around you.
Cosmetic dental flaws that are frequently corrected with the application of porcelain veneers are:
- Chips and cracks in enamel
- Deep, set-in stains that are resistant to professional-grade whitening
- Misaligned teeth in the smile zone
